Hi All,
My work requires me to carry a CDL class A with a tanker endorsement. I trained for a couple of weeks and took the test Friday. I passed and I am now a fully licensed commercial driver. Now if I get laid off, I'll have a little more to offer a new employer. I already had a class B, but it had an "L" restriction on it. That meant I couldn't drive anything with air brakes. That limits a person quite considerably. I had it to drive a trim lift truck when I did tree trimming.
This is the last requirement I have before I pass probation. I'll be done with probation on Dec. 1st. I cant wait. It means a small raise and a lllllloooooottttt more job security.
It feels good to have it done and over with. And now it will be with me for as long as I can afford $50 every two years for a physical and $25 every five years to renew. You bet I'll be doing that.
Whoo hoo!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty easy to please.:biggrin::biggrin:

Congrats!! Now ya got to be very careful not to get any moving violations. Some states require CDL retesting with certain violations. I all ready had a class "D" here in Illinois when the CDL license was implemented. I had to take everything, including tanker, doubles/tripples, and Haz-mat. And have added the passenger endorsement since. Sure don't care to do all that again at one time!! And since I have had "M" motorcycle endorsement since I was 18, there isn't anything left to put on my license!!!

Congrats. I have the Alberta equivalent of a cdl. I haven't gotten my TDG and crane ticket. But these are separate from my licence. the only other one I"m missing is my motorcycle license.

Fantastic !!!! Congrats Steve . My best friend just got her CDL and she is working on her hazmat endorsement . :good:
Hey Greg , you need a trailer just to carry all your endorsements

That's awesome Steve. Congratulations. Now you'll have to change your avatar

Congrats Steve! and keep it safe mate.
Keith! that's a great flick, yep l also spent 30 years looking up the dogs bum,l still have a old 75 mod Mack with 320 c/power it now has grass growing up thru duels.

Congrats Steve.. After 40 years in the transportation industry, I have the utmost respect for the truckers out there... especially the heavy haulers. I've seen some tremendous pieces moved. My step-son is a long hauler and between talking with him and working with haulers over the years, I know it's a tough life. Not one I would want to do. Hopefully, you'll never have to hit the road and can stay close to home.

Thanks all.
I should clarify. Most of you probably don't remember me a while back talking about my new job. I work for the city of Bullhead City. They require a CDL in order to drive our dump trucks, water trucks and the such.
If ness, I would drive a larger truck to make a living. Long haul would not be my first choice. Being away from home would be my first stumbling block. Maybe a local day run. Vegas and back or something like that.
Anyway, thanks for the congrats.

Trucks is trucks. Working for the city, you'll get to haul some hot rock!!!

I used to pull a 5000 gallon unbaffled tanker we used for water to jet road crossing when we installed water and gas mains. Ya had to start slowing down 2 miles prior to stopping or that dang tanker would skid the tractor forward at a stop from the water rocking it so hard.

That liquid surge'll kill ya!

I learned that the hard way... back when I was just 19, I spend a couple of months up in Kansas working on a ranch in lieu of my one of step-fathers.. he'd broken an arm in an accident moving to the job and I was visiting for a while before leaving for the navy, and being a good son volunteered to work in his place until his arm healed... I had to take the water truck out to a work site. Don't know how big it was, the tank was on about a 16 or 20 ft flatbed. I was fairly new driver and when I tried to stop, it the wheels stopped, but the water didn't... almost slid into an open trench silo.

Oops!!

Congratulations Steve.

Thanks Dale.

Great job, Steve! Nothing better than job security in todays times. It will probably give you a little more free cash to make more sawdust.

I hope so. Also going to be finished with probation in 9 days and counting. Will get a raise in pay for that.

Awesome, welcome to the world of real truckers! I'm just entering 15 yrs with 1.6 million safe miles under my belt! Job security is for real, as long as you use common sense. Avoid jobs that are automotive related, but that doesn't include hauling fuel. I run pet supplies, which is a solid business regardless of the economy. people will feed their dogs Iams and eat out of a dumpster..the dog comes first!
Maybe it's an employer thing, but my employer arranges and pays for all my medical and drug testing. I only pay for my $120 liscence renewal every 4 yrs. They even pay for safety training every 2 yrs, and skid pad training as well.
