We are in the process of cutting down 2 dateless Palms and four Queen Palms next to our house. Hate to see them go but we are replacing them with non friendly pigeon trees [}:)] The dateless Palms are very blah looking on the inside but the Queens are a pretty pinkish color. Anyone ever dry and turn these?

Yes, I have turned Queen Palm if that is the equivalent of what we call Cocos Palm (I'm sure it is).The best parts for turning comfrom around the outside where there is a greater density of the tough red/brown fibre. I dried blanks in the microwave before turning them but others have told me that freezing the moisture out is a good option. Whatever you do don't let your blanks sit around for more than 6 months or so because the pithy part will start to break down and they will be less stable to turn. Keep tools ultra sharp and take light cuts. Final sanding along the grain. Finish with several coats of CA.
The result is a first cousin to what I have see adverised and shown as Red Palm.
Best of luck. It will be interesting to see the results of your efforts.
