I was at St Joseph Florida and picked up a small piece of Palm Tree and turned a pen.
It was interesting, to say the least.

I didn't stabilize it, it was still damp as I was turning it. Just turned it at a very slow speed.Well done, I hate turning palm. Way to prone to breaking apart if not stabilized.
I used the normal CA only as I finished it.Nice work.
I am challenged by Black palm and there's a lot of CA being deployed each time I renew the assault. I am turning it along the grain , not side grain as you seem to have done though
I'm assuming the strings of the palm? When I finished the pen and applied the CA, I got 1000 grit sand paper and sanded the ends in a circular motion. Sand paper on top of my work bench and me holding the blank between my fingers making gently circular motions on each end.How are the ends trimmed?
Was the wood still green when you applied your finish? If so, you may experience some issues with the finish in the coming days/weeks.I didn't stabilize it, it was still damp as I was turning it. Just turned it at a very slow speed.
It was not bone dry if your asking that. Thus far still looks good with no visible problems. Was the wood still green when you applied your finish? If so, you may experience some issues with the finish in the coming days/weeks.
