Well Friday I burned the heck out of my arm, (never lay your arm on a hot exhaust header tube) but with the help of some vicoden and alot of gauze bandaging I went out and tried again to make a pen out of my long awaited Paduk, I've wanted some since I first started turning pens, I got a nice piece , cut a bunch of blanks last week and the first one went Kaboom and left a divot in my face mask. This time NO HURRY. I glued the tubes with Gorilla glue, turned the wood, both barrels looked great good sizing, filled the open spots in the grain and went to town, I recently commented that I don't get bad finishes with CA any more. Yeah well once again I spoke through the wrong end, the cap looked fantastic, and so did most of the lower barrel except for the 3/4 inch wide band of blush all the way around it So I have a feeling there is about to be a bunch of 7/8 and 3/4 Paduk Pen Blanks listed quite reasonably cause I can't figure this stuff out.[}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)]

I sand to 6000MM, then EEE, then Mylands friction polish.

The two times I tried a CA finish, the CA dried uneven. The oils in the padauk react with the CA.

Your other post said something about ribbons when drilling. All of the padauk I have drilled does the same thing, when drilling with the grain.

BTW: Clean the residue off your drill bit before drilling anything else.

Ken; My suggestion would be to clean the blank with DNA or Acetone, and then apply sanding sealer before the CA.

Hope your arm is feeling better. It's not a good idea to use power tools while on pain killers...
