No, not hurt. I just came home from Hobby Lobby and happened to be on the isle with Castin' Craft polyresin....16oz for $24.99. At that rate...$200 per gallon. And, no, I don't buy it there.
Do a good turn daily!
Don

That's what I pay with a 50% of coupon. Man you guys are spoiled down there.

Lin.

AND...........It's not even the "good stuff"! Even with a 50% off coupon, than STILL makes it almost 3 times as much as the "good stuff".

AND...........To add insult to injury, I can't seem to find a mfg or experation date on the cans in the craft store. Who knows how long it's been sitting on the shelf or in a hot warehouse?

US Composites----Silmar 41. I think the last gallon I bought was less than fifty bucks, including the mekp (incluced in the advertised price) and shipping. I use Pearl X from hobby lobby or micas for colors. I get these from coastal scents. Haven't really shopped around for the micas, there may be some place better for those!

You can get the proper dyes coloring agents for both of the materials and not have to worry about whether it is going to work correctly. With the coupons. That is a good mark down, for the occasional caster on the dyes.
besides I buy one and when there are more than one check out working go through a different one on the same trip.
I did have to go through the same women one day, as they closed the other check out.
When she called me on it I told her that it must have been my evil twin brother that went through she just got a funny look on her face, and rang it up
:clown:

It's like anything else. You play cost, quality, and necessity off one another and make your buting decision. A person who needs resin right now can't wait for a gallon to be delivered. Also, a person who just wants to buy a little to try out casting is less likely to mind paying a premium.

This is little different than how I shop at woodcraft. There are very few things that I always buy from them because their prices cannot compare to buying online. However, sometimes you need a kit, a special blank, or certain supply right now and can't wait for an online order to arrive.

For an initial trial run, I bought the Casting Craft quart size from H-L. I think I paid about $30 for it. I just ordered a gallon of Silmar 41 from Illstreet, which cost $51 including $15 shipping.

The mfg. date is indeed on the bottom of the Castin Craft can, you just have to have xray vision to see it. No really, it's there but really hard to see and I guarantee it is past the expiration date by at least 6 months. I can get it to work but have to put it in the "Easy Bake Oven" for a while to get it to cure.
