My lovely wife and I decided to go to town yesterday afternoon and get an ice cream cone, that is where my truck died. I did find someone to jump me off and I went and bought another battery for it. Man those things have gone up in price over the last few years. Was not expecting that. But that is when it happens. Got a new one and running again.

Bah, a battery is not bad. What is bad now is the alternator. I remember when you could get an alternator for $30 with core exchange, not to mention the average Joe could replace it inside 10 minutes. Figure 10 times that amount today, in both money and time.

I looked under the hood of my wife's Saturn Vue with a V6 and I can't tell which part is the engine and which is the emissions controls, I thought my daughters V6 Chrysler was bad, but this thing is ridiculous, but I did find the oil dipstick, drain plug and filter.

welcome to the world of technology and inflation. and it won't get any better. I feel sorry for the folks that have a hybyrd car, wait till they get ready to replace the energy saving battery..................and you are right you do have a lovely wife

$235 was the price for an alternator for my 2000 F150. Used one at the local scrapyard with 50,000 miles on it.......$15.00:biggrin: Truck already has 175,000 on it so a used part is just fine.

As I work in the Automotive sales industry, I hear this every day, Damn that's high for a battery!! Sad reality is we make the least amount of profit on batteries. I can remember when a quart of oil was .88 cents. Now it's $3.99 for the cheap stuff.

Car parts

I damaged the passenger side mirror on my pickup....$175 to replace the rear view mirror and there is no way I can replace it myself, the door has to be taken apart to get at it.

My wife has a cracked interior door panel...over $500 bucks to replace a piece of molded plastic.

I back ended someone a few years ago damage to the front end of my truck...$3600 and that was with ZERO structural damage all molded plastic. Both headlights had to be replaced even though neither was actually damaged...the plastic tabs that held them in place were broke off.

Just put new batteries in both my wife's and my Harleys. Big ouch!!! The price has more then doubled since the last pair. (and I work at the dealership)

If you are capable of replacing the items and can wait a few days for delivery, try http://rockauto.com/. As a mechanic I can tell you the prices are comparable to what a shop pays for the parts. AND they're the same parts you buy from the parts stores. Just my nickle.

But when it comes to batteries, we're still screwed.

Doesn't sound too bad, I've done more to replace a speaker in my Dodge.
