I bought a great chuck from Wayne and some beautiful spalted pecan bowl blanks from Eugene. Life is great. I tried them both out today with great results until the bowl gouge catch of the century sent nearly half of the bowl into orbit.

Sigh, Wayne and Eugene, that first bowl pix will be delayed somewhat! :(

Bowl gouges catch. That's what they do. I know, I have tried using them. Touch and catch. Touch and catch. Like ice skating backwards. Can't be done. I know, I've tried.

Cav,
I've got a collection of half bowls they make neat little storage when hung on the wall. Of course for most of them I have no idea where the other half took off to.

Take two halves and glue them together to make one whole.

wassamatter Cav, didn't they teach simple math back in the day that you had to carry a big stick to school to beat off the pterodactyl? [}:)]

Let me break it down for you.......1/2 + 1/2 = 1

Your friends will be dumbfounded that you were able to make a bowl like that and you can regale them with a story about how you grafted a tree together one arbor day and this bowl is the fruit of your labor.

(Ed told me I have to keep you on your toes during the weekends that he is not here.)

Damn fine idea, Mudder. I neglected to mention that I haven't found the missing half yet.

In case you can't guess by now, my shop is NOT one of the neat ones!!!! [:D]

Cav,
Just to make you feel even worse[}:)], I watched Stuart Batty turn much of a bowl ONE-HANDED at the Utah Symposium, all the while his dad was sitting in the audience heckling him. It might have been even more entertaining than the egg cup race.[:D]

Cav have you ever thought of hiring a shop hygienist?

LOL, not a bad idea. I do have a Shop Vac, I just don't want to risk wearing it out!

BTW, I finally found the main missle, so to speak, but one small piece is still missing.

I think I'll use Leap's technique and hang the main piece on the wall as a warning to visitors. [:D]

Catches are excuses for design changes. They always seem to happen when the peice is close to completion. Worst catch: bowl shattered and dented the wife's bmw. Never knew she was so observant. Latest catch: broke the top third off of one side of a vase: it's now a wooden pitcher, working on adding the handle.
