So, now that I've learned Dayacom makes a lot of the pen kits we use, I have been browsing their site. I came across this incredibly ornate design, with an engraved nib holder:

Does anyone know if this is for sale anywhere? Ed has a page on ExoticBlanks.com, which has related items, but not the kit itself. The engraved nib holder is intriguing to say the least.

The only place I have found the more ornate Dayacoms is garypye.com, an Australian seller. EB has some of the nicer ones, but Dayacom has a ridiculous minimum order quantity, which makes it difficult for vendors to get much of a variety without "hocking" their entire business to do so. Imagine having to order 300 of these if you wanted to stock them. The US dollar conversion is $140 on this one.

I asked about this a while back if you want to take a look: https://www.penturners.org/threads/elusive-dayacom-kits.167650/

Ii apologize if this post may seem somewhat "off-topic" . . . perhaps I should start another thread . . . anyway, I'll post here for now.

I find that the Dayacom website is "worrisome" to browse because many familiar kits they once sold are not listed.

For example, the Statesman (Full-size), the Jr. Statesman, and the Venus . . . to name a few.

I am left wondering if those kits that don't readily appear have been discontinued.

If that is so, it is disappointing to say the least. . . I have long admired those particular kits and hate to think I could not get more of them.

Anybody have any comments . . . . or condolences !! . . ?

Thanks for the links.

Dayacom has some truly ornate pens, for sure. Love a lot of those designs... But $140 just for the kit seems kind of extreme. There are some other fairly ornate pens available, that seem on par with the Great Palace one...wonder why that one is $140? I agree, though...if the minimum order is x300, ouch!

I wonder why they bother bringing a kit to market that costs that much. Most vendors won't stock it because their minimums are ludicrous. I wouldn't think it's cheap to develop a new kit and they have to know they won't sell many.

Who knows what the markets are like outside of the US, though... 🤷‍♂️

I always wonder how big a market there really is in China. We were the worlds largest market for most things for a long time, but, maybe not anymore (especially since the pandemic and now this supply chain problem...) China has nearly 5x as many people as we do, and the Chinese have long been savers (they save money more than we generally do in the US, especially compared to younger generations here). There are now more billionaires, millionaires, etc. in China than the US. I wonder how much they might be able to get by selling a pen made from a $140 USD kit... Especially with all those emperor and dragon type designs, which seem to fit in better over there anyway.

Here is a photo of an Oriental Dragon that is my personal carry pen. The same nib for the Oriental Dragon Fountain Pen is available on a pen from The Classic Nib. https://www.classicnib.com/component-sets-kits/elegant-emperor Not as ornate as the Oriental Dragon, but it is available and at a reasonable price.

That is truly a beauty! I've always LOVED that red and gold trustone blank. Goes so well with gold pens.

Love that engraved nib too.
