Sure hope you weren't making a pen in the pirst pic.

Well since it was Super Bowl Sunday and not Super Pen Sunday, I think we can assume that Rick was not making a body for a pen for the Jolly Green Giant.

All told we made a dozen bowls or so. The barrel the minilathe is sitting on, is packed full with natural edged bowls ready for sanding.

It does however look like Rick is not exactly making a bowl...

Karma struck him down however and we ended up experimenting on that piece. A couple of us had never used either a hook tool or a Rolly Munroe tool, so we spent some time experimenting with each tool type.

Wow - I couldn't help but notice the "skid marks" on the wall behind the lathes! Too many out of balance blanks?

That's from turning green wood, the sap sprays out of the wood while turning, leaving a sap "skid mark" on the wall. If the wood is sufficiently fresh, you get wet yourself while turning. I've had sap dripping off my face mask.

Exactly what I was going to say...

Some of you look familiar. I think I've seen you guys at the annual woodworking show in Springfield, MA, and maybe even at the NWA Showcase (and Totally Turning symposium) we have in Saratoga, NY each year. [shameless plug]

Looks like everyone had fun.

Several folks there, myself included were at the woodworking show in Springfield MA. Several folks have been to Totally Turning and other similar events like the one last year in Derry NH and various AAW Symposiums.

I think some folks are going to Totally Turning this year, but not sure how many will be too busy with gettting ready for the AAW Symposium in Hartford.
