Hey guys,

My live center is on its last legs and I am going for the Oneway live center. I have tons of applications where I will use its attachments, so the price for me is worth it. That being said, anyone have a good source at the best price? Seems to be about 110 dollars on average.

I was hoping Charles Martin (WoodChips) would be carrying this item... Dang.

That one's on my list of possible purchases, too. I'm concerned about these multi-tip live centers, though. Mostly because I bought the Woodcraft-branded one and it was not very well made in that the inserts didn't fit well and there was lots of slop and weird burrs on the edges of mating faces. It got returned very quickly.

When you get yours, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on its quality. Especially how well the inserts seated in the head and if there was any slop. The Woodcraft one had some tips with wobble. The only one that didn't was the cup center, and that was just the cup - it's point still wobbled. Quite annoying.

I dunno where the best price would be. CSUSA has it, but I dunno if they're the best price.

I had the Woodcraft once, but returned it the next day, it was not good. The Oneway is excellent, best live center for wood turning. Don't know the actual price, came with the lathe, I think it's about $100 now.

Gotcha Ken. Thanks.

I will be ordering this one soon. I will let you all know of my thoughts when it gets here.

Beamer, I also had bad luck witht he WC one. I have had tons of bad luck with their machined stuff as of late. Like me Tool rest post that was so undersized that it rocked back and forth in the holder. WC says they were all made this way and that they have to sell through their stock before it is corrected. I giggled. Then instead of sending me a return tag, they said I had to pay shipping back and they would refund the amount, but only up to 5 dollars which is what they allowed. Had to go UPS so it was more. It was a hassle. No more orders from them online. The store hear is a good one, but they don't have all the stock on hand.

Hah! That's flat out silly. "We'll fix it just as soon as we find enough unsuspecting saps to buy the crap we have on hand." What the heck?! [B)]

I've never ordered from 'em online before. Now I know not to! Thanks for taking one for the team [:p]

They're decent for things that nobody else carries. I tend to hit Rob at Western Tool in W.Sac. He gives the S.A.W. club members a 10% discount (or better, if he can) on just about everything. Most of my shop came from them :p

He doesn't have much for turning stuff, tho. He can get some stuff, but it's subject to handling charges and I try to avoid that.

I guess we've got it pretty good, here, though. Two woodworking stores (does Sac. machine count? :p) and several tool shops. 3 lumber yards. When I retire to the midwest, I am sure gonna miss being so well supplied :p

I have the one from WC, The bearings craped out in less than a year. One of the tips never fit right, it was cheaper to throw that tip out than driving 90 miles to replace it. You get what you pay for.

I'm planning on buying the Oneway set. Buy quality the first time and you only buy once.

Thought #1: $110.00 for a live center is a whoop of money.
Thought #2: Fangar is a clever guy with making things from metal. Do yer own fella. Save a bunch, mebbe sell some. [;)]
Thought #3: Very dissapointing to hear the bad stories about WoodCraft. I'll be cautious if ever dealing with them again.

I have a woodcraft live center and have had no problems with it.
I also have a Nova live center which I got on special from woodcraft for $69.00.
Might check and see if they still have any but for the price the Oneway it's not a bad buy either.

Ron said "you get what you pay for" and in this case I would have to agree. There is a reason why the Nova and Oneway chucks are in the buck fifty or better range. I was in woodcraft and took a look at the new Pinnacle chuck they are selling for $89.00 and I was not impressed. I'll stick with my Super Nova's.
