In the very short time I have been turning pens is.. There is a pen for anybody and everybody.. What I might think is the most god awful ugly pen.. Somebody else thinks it is the best.. Today I sold one of my very first antler pens I did.. It was beyond being ugly.. I didn't even mean to have it the case it was in.. This guy thought it was the best pen ever made.. I practically was ready to give it to the guy and then he made a me an offer that I couldn't refuse.. Hell I wouldn't of refused $5.00 for that pen.. Then he highballs me... No more low figures on pens that I don't like...LOL [:I]

Isn't the "eye of the beholder" a wonderful thing? when I sold cars the adage was "there is a butt for every seat."

Thank goodness for a variety of tastes. Can you imagine a world of only b2b slimlines?

Chris

I know what you mean Dan, I made a really crappy looking slimline that a friend of mine loved. It was one of the first segments I had tried and to my half a--ed trained eye it was all out of whack, I gave it to her. Glad you got some $ for yours, LOL! You just never know!!!!

Congratulatins on the sale. It is true that beauty is in the eye of the holder.

I have a different take as it relates to my "ugly" pens. Given that every pen that leaves my possessions is an advertisement for future sales, I will not even give away a pen that I'm not completely happy with.

But as they say, "different strokes for different folks".

I understand what your saying.. If it was poorly made I would have thrown it out first.. And I have "thrown away" more then my share.. This one was made ok.. It was just ugly...LOL

There is a difference between ugly and poorly made. I have lots of pens that were made well (good fit & finish), but the design didn't come out nearly as well as planned. I have no problem giving these away, because it is indeed an "eye of the beholder" thing. I do agree that poorly made pens (i.e., bad finish, poor fit, mechanisms that don't work smoothly)are best left to either the parts bin or to an ignominious end under a few hundred thousand tons of landfill.
