I used to make pens about 12-14 years ago--stopped until a few months ago and started again. I was going through some boxes that have been packed away since then and found some OLD pen and pencil kits (slimline And Euros) from PSI. They were still sealed in the plastic baggies and in good shape. What really surprised me was the refills still worked after a little bit of scribbbling on some paper. Some of my family that I made pens for back then are telling me that theirs still write just fine. I would have thought the ink would have dried up by now.
