Hello all, I am a novice wood butcher from Fallon, a little town just outside Reno, Nevada. I enjoy all aspects of woodworking and especially like making pens. Most of my pens are given as gifts to family, friends and co-workers but it's the fun of making them that keeps me doing it. I work...(play) in my garage which doubles as my shop. I collect old woodworking tools and have them displayed on all the walls of my mancave. I really enjoy getting the old tools cleaned, repaired and usable again before finding a spot for them to be displayed and sometimes even used. Thanks all for alowing me to join and if I can be of help please ask. Robbie

Welcome Jimmie;

You've come to a great site for info and inspiration. Great folks here to share your passion. Please come back often. Check out the Library section, great resource for ideas and tutorials. Don't forget, we love pictures:laugh:.

Welcome Robbie, I am in Reno so know just where Fallon is. Nice to have another local around and I am always happy to meet fellow turners.

Welcome Robbie, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/library/general_reference/Getting_started_in_pen_turning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.

Thanks all, I will post pictures asap, have to update my shop photos if I ever clean it so you would be able to see most of it.

Daniel, I just returned from Reno, was at Woodworking Source to get a few items. Just wish it were closer. Thanks again all. Robbie

Welcome Jimmie from Salt Lake City, Utah. As someone said no pics no tools-JK . I would like to see the picsc of the tools. I have a couple older tools that do not amount to a whole lot but they seem to be beckoning me. I know I need to learn more about them first before I can use properly. I think at some time I would like to make something using only hand tools even though it increases my body pain by 75% I would take the pain to be able to make something worthwhile.
