Well folks if you missed it its your loss. Seems a good time was had by all and I know I really enjoyed meeting some new friends and seeing some old ones.

Don Ward (its virgil) demoed how to turn a slimline snake and add wood center and nib ends.

Evan (Contach) demoed how to give a nice CA finish.

Paul (PaulOKC) just had to show off his new colored vise!
He has some of the best behaved kids I've seen in a while and a very sweet wife.

Bob (Txbob) brought some pens he made a few years ago that were simply fantastic and also some wooden tape measures that were WOW!

Joe (JDenney) turned his first antler and did a hell of a job. Boy his little baby Sammy is cute.

Les (LesSmith) was his usual joval self and a pleasure to be around .

Freddie Pike (Edman2) and his son Steven are just 2 of the nices people you would want to meet and they took a number of pictures and hopefully they will post some tomorrow.. (they have a 5 hr drive home).

Don (Don Ho) arrived a little late but I was glad he got here as he had a loooong way to drive. ( about 15 blocks:wink:).

It was fun and we will do it again....................

...and Roy demonstrated how to cast some snake skins and cactus and also how to cook hamburgers and hotdogs. His wife demonstrated how to prepare potato salad, oatmeal cookies, and peanut butter cookies. Well, she didn't demo how she made them, but how she serves them. They were great as were the hamburgers, the penturning, the sharing, the friendships made, and most of all, the putting faces to those with whom we communicate here on the forum. And, I won the blanks that Roy cast today. We had a great time and the drive was well worth it. I think Paul is working on a burnt orange vise to compliment the OU red one he showed us.

Do a good turn daily!
Don

And Paul won a box of 80 blanks but he had to leave early so he'll have to come back to the house to pick them up and bring me my wheel ( he knows what I'm talking about.
Joe won the nibs and ink pumps that Lou donated and as he was leaving handed them back to me and said he hasn't made a f/p yet and didn't think he would for some time so I gave him the antler he turned
Freddie wond a bunch of blanks that Don Ward donated
Bob won a set of snake skin cigar blanks donated by Don Ward
Steven Freddies Son won a Baron set of snakeskin Blanks
Evan won the snake and mesquite slim that Don made.
and yes Poor Don the snake master won a couple of snake skins I cast and some cactus I cast thats like the CEO of General Motors wining a Shwinn.

Sure wish I could have made it. It just wasn't there financial wise with all the doctor bills coming in. Hopefully I can make it next time or I'll come down for a visit when everything calms down. Glad everyone had a good time.

We did have a blast. I have some pics too and will try to get some posted. Great to see some of you again, and meet new faces. Dustin, you were missed and thought of. Will be praying for you this week. Definately have to do another one! Cool on the blanks! Thanks Roy!
Oh, BTW, a burnt orange what was I supposed to do?

Had a great time

It's a long way to Oklahoma! Five hours to drive down, five hours at the meeting and five hours to drive home and worth every mile and evey minute! Roy did a great job hosting. I learned a bunch of stuff (like, I need more equipment!). It was great to meet everyone and put faces to names. I will post some photos tomorrow. My camera is too tired tonight! :)

Oh man! Did I have a great time. Talk about a student among teachers. There was so much knowledge and expertise floating around out there that you wouldn't believe it. As a rookie I've had so many questions floating around in my head that it was great to be with a group of guys that could answer my questions in person. If any of you out there have had an opportunity to do something like this and haven't, shame on you. You don't realize what you are missing. I didn't realize it, and if I had I wouldn't have waited so long to meet fellow pen turners in person in this type of setting. You can really learn a lot.

I can't thank Roy and his wife enough for hosting such a great event. By far one of the best days of the year for me so far. Ya'll did a great job. I appreciate everyone that shared so much with me. I felt like a kid in a candy store talking with everyone and it probably showed, but hey, I was loving it.

Thanks again to Roy and Dee for all the hard work and time they invested in putting this together. I certainly had a great time and learned a lot, mostly just how far I have to go before I am competent in this hobby! Getting to learn casting from Roy and Don, watching Don use his skew and watching Evan put a great CA finish on a pen was amazing! It really is incredible just how helpful and friendly penturners are. It really is the mark of an expert that he will freely share his knowledge and experience with others. Roy and Don are both amazing turners and excellent teachers. I really enjoyed meeting all the other guys. Paul, I'll be emailing you about getting on the list for a vise. Thanks again to everyone who came and made it a really great day.

Glad to hear Y'all had a great time, I wish we could get something like that around Memphis or Nashville, Be nice to meet some Vols fans and pen makers.

It really did happen! Oklahoma Photos!

Photo 1 is Roy, Don, and Bob looking at a blank that Don brought.
Photo 2 is Paul, Les, and Stephen, watching Joe turn antler.
Photo 3 is Joe turning the antler.

Roy's Pr pouring 101 - cactus and snake

First, you cut up the cactus skelton and place it in the molds, then you put the hardener in the pr, then you pour it into the molds. Don Ward was forced to take all this cactus, and snakeskin home as a door prize! Snakeskins for the snake king!

Some more!

Don Ward turns a snakeskin and mesquite slimline and Evan puts the ca finish on it. Tony, the ever alert shop guard dog, was on duty and the roses were budding out on a wonderful summer day! It was a lotta fun!!

Once again, thank you Roy and Dee for your hospitality. Here are a couple more pics.
Roy and Freddie, and the one with Roy and the smoke, well, it smelled like something I've turned before. Is that what you do with you scraps, Roy, smoke the meat?
