While searching for Nova G3 jaws to hold 1 1/2" round stock I came across a "new old stock, open box" Nova G3 chuck with 50mm jaws for $75. It does not include the box. On looking close at the pictures I noticed it is marked G3D. I searched for that and did not find references.
I read the ebay reviews and a buyer said:
"This is an original Technatool/Nova G3 chuck at an exceptional price. However, I had great reservations when first opening the packaging and found a Delta Tool box. Closer examination showed that it was made by Nova for Delta and they stuck a 'D' at the end of the model #. I.e. G3-D. I am very pleased with the chuck, but this should have been disclosed."

Seems like a great deal, I ordered one so I have 2 chucks with different jaws installed.

Peruse Woodworkers Specialties. They have the G3 old style, means turning the chuck key the other direction, for what converts to $69 US. Free shipping on purchases over $100. The refurbished are actually customer returns so they can't be sold as new but are for all intents and purposes. They have a lot of other tempting goodies too. I know I have succumbed a couple times.

I'm just like Peter (Curly), I've bought 2 or 3 of the Nova G3 chucks from them, usually their Nova G3 Companion Chucks along with the 1" x 8TPI Locking Insert for my lathe along with various sets of jaws. And I'm like you, I have multiple chucks with different jaws installed so I don't have to mess around changing them as often. My only complaint has been with the "New Design T-Handle" chuck key - in my opinion it is just icky compared to the "Old and Not Improved" key.

Haven't come across that website in my searches. Thanks for the heads up. I bookmarked it.

Dave, I am not sure which key I have, but it has not been an issue. I do understand the new one being different and that not all new and improved items are a good thing.
I am waiting on the new 1 1/2" jaws so I can make the sleeves for my PSI pen press.
