Attempted to create a "Flame Red Elder" effect out of a piece of Knotty pine.
I think that I ended up with a "Frog" box.:biggrin:
Enjoy and C&C welcome.
Bob.

If this is a first attempt, it is a good one. The box is excellent!

I would make the red on top of the lid less regular, and maybe apply some to the inside of the lid too.

I've made and seen a lot of stuff made with that "knotty Pine" of mine but, no one has ever attempted to re-created Flame red box elder with it so, I'm stunned to what may have make it but, ain't going to ask..:wink:

On the other end, the "frog" box seems to suit its appearance, too many eyes/knots in those blanks to hide away so, it endup as a "fun" piece, and I see nothing wrong with it...!

The "things" Bob does...!:eek::wink::biggrin:

Cheers
George

What was your process? I think the colors look right. I would suggest less is more and no one would know any better.

Full strength red dye was applied with a CA applicator and I hoped that it would bleed in a lot more than it did.:frown:Then after it dried I sprayed diluted yellow and orange (separately) hoping to blend the colours. This didn't really happen so I decided to try and sand some of the red off. This was quite successful until the hard resin layers came through, leaving no colour at all.:mad:. Then polished with Shellawax.
Lesson learned --- don't use pine or similar wood for this type of work.
Thanks.

Bob.
