I picked up some stainless steel "sauce cups" from Sam's yesterday. I want to use these for casting bottle stopper blanks. I'm concerned that it may be difficult to get the casting out of the cup if there is significant sticking. I'm using PR (Silmar-41).

Would something like Pam or a non stick cooking spray work to prevent sticking? I know there are mold release products sold but basically I'm cheap enough to wonder if what I already have around the house may work :).

Anyone with experience on what works well to prevent sticking?

I used a store brand "PAM" in a couple of my castings. Seemed to work just fine. I've not used anything on some of the same castings too with only slight difficulty getting the blanks out.

You shouldn't have any trouble de-molding, since the Silmar will shrink slightly
when it cures.

But a good all around release is 90% mineral spirits and 10% vaseline.
Warm the vaseline till it will pour, combine with the spirits and shake.
You can brush or wipe it on. You could spray it too, but the spray mechanism
tends to break down from the mineral spirits after a few hours..
