Greg If I'm not mistaken Aren't those two pieces of bone at wrist supposed to be connected?? to the wrist !! Sorry I guess we are all getting broken up, at least you did your's in a manly fashion and exhibition of testosterone overflow. I did mine through plain old fashioned stupidity, I managed to turn with one hand when I cut my fingers off last summer, C'mon buck up tuck the tool handle under your arm pit and work slowly, Never mind, that's just for Idiots like me, Smart folk don't do stuff like that

dang! that will teach you to get outside the workshop.......huh? just kidding

just think, the time off will give you plenty of time to come up with more to do

get well soon

Ouch Greg
Are you looking at surgery to fix? Once they repair it you may be able to hold a chisel?!.... Take care, heal quick..
Dan

Hoping they fix it soon

the emergency folks just put a splint on it and sent me home. i have an appointment with an ortho specialist in 40 minutes. he will tell me the plan for repair. the other xray shows the extreme angle of the break (greater than 60 degrees, based on my segmenting experience ) so I'm betting it will have to be pinned.

in the meantime y'all will have to put up with lousy, 1 handed typing.

just back from the ortho.

i stay in the splint until next wed to let the swelling subside. next wed they put me under general anesthesia and try to reset the bone. if that goes well then they will pin it from the outside and i'm in a cast for 6 weeks. if it doesn't go well then they will perform surgery and bolt the bone to a metal plate that will become permanent. cast for 2-3 weeks.

i'll find out which when i wake up.

Ok, I have a solution.

Greg, you stand for Ken and Ken, you loan Greg your wrist, since you're not using it right now.

There. Problem solved!

Aw, come on, just shake it off! Nothing there that a little CA won't cure:)

Maybe after the swelling goes down some, if you talk nice to the surgeon, he can cast something in the cast. Nice thing is that bones heal pretty quick but I'll bet with the break where it is you will be having some PT. Stay at it, do what they say and everything will be fine. Good luck, we're all in this together.

Sounds like a good plan to me, I'm not sure Greg will like my friend Arther, he's a fine member of the Iitis clan, but sure why not.
Greg how are your knees and back?? also do you mind having part of a finger missing?? It's no real nuisance, just makes it hard to pick you left nostril :bananen_smilies051:

hey,,, didn't we tell you to act your age. (still don't know what that exactly means.) . I know maybe Nolan will let you use his pins and the Doc will give you a discount.
Seriously sorry to hear this. let me know if you need anything.

Bad luck, bad break, and bad area for the break. Just be glad it was NOT a compound break ...

BTW, just how is the bike? (A so-so attemp at some sort of humor)

Sorry for your misfortune and wish you the best of recovery. :doctor:

I have broken a total of 13 bones, 8 of them at one time. After about a week you should be able to get into some light work like drilling and glueing up blanks. So use that time to makle up sets of kits and blanks to go together. That way when you can handle your skew again you can dive right in. I spoend one night a week putting together sets, drilling and glueing them, and the rest of my spare time I am turning. That way I don't have to sit for 10 minutes between pens trying to decide what to put together. I also drill all my 7mm holes, then move on to the 10mm, then to the odd stuff. Its production line at my shop. When I feel like turning, that's all I have to do. Set it on the mandrel and go. I already know what blank, kit, and style I am doing. Do the light stuff while that's all you can do and then dive in to the heavy when you are able. Just don't dive in too fast. The pens will wait till the arm is ready.

home

dr dumbass and his "let's let the swelling go down"... the nice sharp bone had, miraculously, worked its way into the muscle over the last week so they couldn't do the external manipulation and had to open it up. then, are you ready for this, i'm special and they didn't have the right plate so they had to send out for parts while i was under. scheduled for 1.5 hours, actually took 4.

but all good now. i'm in a splint to "let the swelling go down" then they will put me in a cast next week. cast should be gone in a couple three weeks.

Yeeooow!

At least this X-Ray looks better than the last one. It's just healing from here on out.

Start a list of all the things your going to do when the cast comes off. Then you can compare it to the list I'm sure your wife is making. Do all the stuff first that is on both lists (fat chance of that happening), stuff that remains on your list next and cross off all the other stuff.
John, the marriage counselor.

Laugh alot, rest and get well soon.

Wow Greg. Sorry to hear about the arm. I just had one of those done a few months ago so I feel your pain. Let it heal and try not to bang it around too much. The last thing you want is to screw it up and have to do it all over again.

Did you know that with a cast on and just using the tips of your fingers, at the 4 week mark - your hand in the cast can assist the other hand in turning, in drilling and doing other things. DAMHIKT

Did you know that with a cast on, Some airlines will let you go to the front of the line and board at the time of the First Class people, even if you have a coach ticket? DAMHIKT

Did you know that if you play it right, you can get LOTS more attention than you ever had before? DAMHIKT  (I even asked the doctor to let me keep the cast on for 7 weeks instead of 6. )

Just wanted to give you some encouragement and offer some tips. You need it! :doctor:

ya know... livin' close to Mr. Jay you better be careful, with his " I'll cast anything" attitude,,, ooooo scary..

lee,

did you know that if you ask nicely while still in a drugged stupor the nurses will give you a box of nitrile gloves? DAMHIKT

mark, i was at jay's day before yesterday and he put up with being my "robotic arms" for a couple of casts; one for a customer:

and one for me:

Greg,

Glad to see that surgery is all over and done with.

I hope that you'll find a way into the shop well before the cast goes off.

Izak.
