Asparagus season is right around the corner. If you wait for them to get big and fat and then dry out, the skin will peal right off to reveal a cactus type skeleton inside.

Pumkins are pretty similar to the prickly pear too. The wood stem thing that grows on top of the pumpkin. You break that off and let it dry out. It will be very porous and fibery.
