This is just a heads up, there are some extremely good looking blocks of Amboyna Burl on eBay, they are gorgeous, but they are punky as all get out and bringing large dollars.
I'd been waiting for a reply from Nolan on some stock to turn shaving brushes with, I know he's still not up to par but I got impatient, so I bought two nice blocks of this wood, BIG MISTAKE .I got a reply from Nolan a couple of days ago unfortunatly I'd already bought these blocks, I guess they are going to need a thorough soaking in Minwax hardener under Vacuum after I sand off the poly the seller used to make them look so pretty.
I guess impatience like Stupidity is it's own reward. I've seen harder Balsa wood than this stuff, but it does look nice, just not worth near the money I paid for it.

Buying from ebay is always a gamble. I bought my share of exceptional pieces there as well as my share of duds :frown:.

Ken, I need to take pictures of the hundreds of pieces I've bought off Ebay and post them. A few years ago, you could count on a few folks to have nothing but Gold there. Matt Huss (our "Gadget") was one of them. But the fees have gotten so silly that many of the really good ones are gone, replaced by folks who either don't know any different or are not that honest. I mean, why would they put poly on anything, unless they were deliberately trying to pull something? Anyway, it's been a long time since I bought anything on Ebay.

Get your Minwax dusted off and your pot fired up...

Funny, they didn't mention it was covered with Poly I guess I'll go sit in P.T. Barnums box.
There are still a few decent sellers, but the last two encounters I've had are Not so good.
