I have a problem with a few pens I have made, not all. On some twist pens, the nib will retract as the pen is being used. I have to twist it out again. Some are worse than others but it is a general nuisance. And it doesn't happen when the pen is first assembled, but only after being used a few times. Am I doing something wrong or is it in the nature of twist pens? What can I do to correct the problem?

Define "some twist pens". Your problem seems to be slimline only related and only with the cheapest of them. Watch the tip as you slowly twist to propel the tip. Once it reaches its max protrusion it should back up just a little. This is because of the locking detent in Ed's video.
Do a good turn daily!
