I have been collecting watch parts for months. Now I am spending some time getting this started. Resin is on the way and hopefully I will have a few of these made for my next show. I have about 65 watches collected so far. Here's what the mess looks like so far.

I feel another thread being shut down on the horizon!!!! Make sure you don't infer that it was your idea and give props to the inventor of casting objects on pens  For example, this is my interpretation of a Barry Gross original.

Make sure that this is one of a kind, please don't copy things that may be copyrighted.

That is a awesome pen------mine will have a even dozen parts. Heck I don't really care if they have hands either. They are just old junk watch parts I really don't see who would fuss.

How do you GEAR up for this kind of project? When will you SPRING into action?

can't help it, your project just got me all WOUND up.

Looking forward to seeing your end results!

Looking forward to seeing a "Gary Max" watch pen. Ive contemplated trying this but I think my wife has an accurate count on how many watches she has. :( Good luck!

I just ordered the resin today------that means Tuesday before it shows up----weds we are heading out to a show. This ain't going to happen over night. I have been working on this for months----those stupid watchs ain't easy to come by.

To no one in particular but I'm just wondering why posting that a PM has been sent is necessary. I see it all of the time. As soon as we log into the IAP site we are informed if we have any PMs or not. When advertising something to sell or give away is it really necessary to post that a PM has been sent? I just don't understand why a PM notice post is necessary. But heck, there is a lot I don't understand.
Do a good turn daily!

Gary,

PM sent

Don

I have found myself sometimes missing a PM. Sometimes it is a good thing I missed it:)

Heck --- I will take all the help I can get----I miss so much stuff that is going on here the way it is. What I really need is 32 hour days.

Gary, if you need some extra TIME, I could always stop in and lend a helping HAND. You know my stance on this whole thing. Looks like a KY Watch Carcus to me!!!!

Just don't have any TIME

You know I had this idea or something like it for a few years now. I have collected a big box of clocks & watches myself. Heck my house is one big scrap yard I was going to work on something like that some time. And I never saw a picture till that Barr? thread came up a months ago. I think I will start work on one if I ever get the TIME

Good luck with your's Gary looks like your off to a good start.

.

I don't see what all the fuss is about with the watch pens. There have been books out for years on making steam-punk jewelry (which translates to pens very well by the way). It is a technique that has been around for a long long time. Very few ideas are completely original. Someone may have been the first to apply it to a pen (good thinking) but again it is a technique not a personal invention. Just my $.02!

I do agree, this is just like barking to say something like I am here. i am sure there are many pen makers that are not on IAP and they are already doing things that we here may have not thought about. But, I worry when we take brand names labels or other stuff from big companies and use them in our pens that also promotes their names. Where do we stand with the law on those, like the cigar pen that one member had with suing the labels off of a actual cigar. However, Watch parts I can't see what the problem is with it. Unless, you use a face of a watch that will show the name of the maker's company?

They are still sitting on my work table----it's been two weeks since I have had any time to work on them. The plan was to build a dozen of them at once adding one piece to each daily. I did order the resin which arrived today. Hopefully I will make some time next week after this show is over.

Yea I agree with all that stuff except the makers name. Heck I bought the watch if I want to modify and resell it I don't see a problem. Now if I print or copy a makers name on it to make it look like a big name now there's a problem. But if I had say a Rolex and I tore it apart and used something in there that showed there name. I do believe I have the rite I bought and paid for the watch do with what I please if I can get more $$$ even better

my 2 cents

Remember when digital watches were over $100?

Yikes!

Now they're not even worth making a pen out of. A tiny circuit board and an LCD would make for a pretty boring watch.
