Hi everyone,

My name is Mark Bradley and I am just getting started (in about a week) at this incredible craft. I just happened to catch a demo at my local Rockler store and got the bug on the spot. Any and all tips you guys are willing to share will be much appreciated.

Welcome Mark, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. You mention that you have read some of the site, be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/articles/2009/Getting_started_in_penturning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.

Welcome to the IAP forums! You just a gathering of the Indianapolis chapter of the IAP over in Avon this Saturday. Jump over and check out the Indianpolis section under local chapters on this site if you'd like to hook up with some local folks and join in on our quarterly get-togethers.

I'm just west of you in Lebanon, and many others are all around our central Indiana area.
 
Welcome! Your in the pen turning capital of the world! Like Dave said we just had a chapter meeting with 50 guys and gals there last Saturday. Bill Bettag does the demo's at the Rockler store and he is an active member of our chapter. Our next meeting is in July so you need to make sure your there. You can learn a ton of stuff at these meeting along with meeting some great people. I haven't been turning long myself and have learned everything from this site and at our meetings.

Thanks for the great wecome! I attended the meeting last saturday, great bunch of people for sure. The photo tips were great, and Bill's tips for beginners were gold. I plan on taking his class ASAP, luckily he lives just down the road from me:good:
