I recently had someone give me some clear casting resin, so I'm going to try and pour a few blanks. I've reviewed several excellent articles here for advice. My question is, what pen kits have the thickest 'finished' covering over the brass tube?

I'm probably describing it poorly -- I was looking at a Cigar 'nib section' today and at the end opposite the nib, the finished thickness of the wood glued to the blank is only about 1/16" -- even less at the nib end.

What kit provides a bit more 'meat' so that things can glued to the blank and then embedded in the resin?

Thanks, Steve

Most high end kit leaves more acrylic or wood on the tubes. Like the JR. series and the other like the full size Statesman, Gents, Majestics...

Other than those, most of the middle end kits, sierra, slimline, cigar don't leave a lot of room. Your best bet would be to go to a bigger pen kit like I mentioned. Hope this helps!:)

Edit: I believe you can wrap the tube in anything and cast it on almost any pen kit, if that is what you are asking.

Actually, only the Sierra Vista is designed for this type of project. The Panache also works well. As for the larger kits having more "meat on the bone", that is not always the case...i.e. the El Grande, Churchill, etc.

Thanks, I haven't tried those kits before, so thanks for clarifying for me.:)

Steve, what are you trying to adhere to the tube? Generally most kits will be fine for wraps, but it if you are gluing objects to the tube that can be a bit trickier. DAMHIKT!

You may want to add the Squire and Elegant Beauty (the thinner tube Dayacom version) to the Sierra Vista kit list. However, unless you want some odd optical effects, I would stay away from clear casting with the Panache.
