New Wood To Me

Let's play a game. I picked up a new board today at LL Johnson's wood expo. Pretty sure most of us has seen a similar wood. From the pictures what do you think it is?

The one marked face is about a 12 inch section. The whole board looks just like that section.

Well I have to give it to you ( kind of). It is not bleached but it is white wenge.

Looks like Popular. All I've seen were small pieces but the grain reminds me of that.

I never knew such a thing existed. The grain is really interesting. I can't tell which way it's supposed to be going.

I looked it up and another name for it is Lati.

Yaya, is apparently another name. Cool. Another new one to add to your experience. I hope we get to see how the grain shows up in some of your segmenting work soon.
I wonder if it takes to dye like Wenge does to bleach (and subsequent dye for that matter)?

Note... Lati (1200) is significantly softer and lighter than Wenge (1930).
