Hey all,
Looking for comments and criticisms on my new site design. I had a friend do it for me. We are still working out the last little details (i.e., spacing on some text, size of some pictures, etc.) but the site is mostly done. I would like to hear what you think and what could be done to make it better. Thanks!

Joel ... Nice website.

I might suggest that on your HOME page that you lower the box a bit and allow a bit of the background to border the top of the page. Do the same on all the pages for consistency. Also, check the focus of the pen as it appears to be a bit fuzzy when opened.

On your PENS page, make your photographs the best that you can afford to have made and make them all the same size especially when they are 'opened'.

On your MATERIALS page, why not go ahead and make the pictures into a two or three column layout. That would eliminate some of the lengthy scrolling for the reader and also allow an immediate comparison of all that is available. Put them into alphabetical order too, but keep the material types - wood vs acrylic - together.

Back to the HOME page ... "When selecting a writing instrument, do you choose function or form? With our fine handcrafted writing instruments, you don’t have to make that choice." Try rewriting this to read, "When you are selecting a writing instrument do you choose function or form? With our fine handcrafted writing instruments, you do not have to make that choice." It is a little bit more formal and I never did like "don't" for some reason.

Overall, I like the site's layout and I believe you and your developer have spend a good bit of effort on it. Good work and good luck to you and your endeavors. [:D]

Very nice. I love the simplicity. Wish I would have made mine simpler. Nice graphics. Flows well. Like the thumbnail/full size image technique. Overall, I like it a lot.

I noticed when viewing the materials it was kind of confusing. Putting the names immediately UNDER the material would help. Also maybe an explanation of postable vs. non-postable for the layman might help. I'm with Steve, I like simplicity in a website. Just my .02.

You didn't get to the ordering page!

Nice site...

One BIG tip in my opinion... Your 'base' images are too big. The thumbnail and lightbox popups are very nice, but you should size the images a bit better... The lightboxes blow bigger than a page (and I have a very high res monitor).

Sizing the images to 800x600 or so before uploading to the site will give you a couple of plusses.
- Will fit nice on most peoples screens.
- Reduces load time
- Reducing load time means lightboxing will work better -- if someone clicks on an image before the page is done loading lightbox doesn't work since its javascript.

Yes I did. There are no prices on the Ordering Page, only the suggestion that I call and ask. I wanted to suggest that at least some sample prices, or price ranges, should be included.

I think the website looks very nice and the colors chosen create a very classy look. As I stated in my email, and now for everyone else. I was very surprised at the process for getting the use of photos on my website. When posting pictures, make sure you have permission to use copyrighted material. Some require you to fill out a form, others will require payment per photo. It's just safe to ask first. Good luck on the website Joel.
