I found a pretty decent deal on CL for me at least. I picked up an old Delta Rockwell lathe from a gentleman on there. I paid $100 for it. Model # 62-610 and it came with all the original tool rests and I mean all of them....Even got a book "getting the most from your lathe" No. 4703 by Delta copyright 1954. Also came with the original tools Delta Rockwell Catalog No. 130: 1" skew, 1/2" skew, 3/4" gouge, 1/2" gouge, 1/4" gouge, 1/4" parting tool, 1/2" round nose scraper, and 1/2" spear point all in the original box. With only half the tools actually being used...but all but 1 still have the rubber tips. The gentleman I picked them up from said he got it all when he was around 11-12 years old in NC, and has had them since. He used them very little then, and just didn't fall into the hobby. I am so excited about how old these are and everything I am almost tempted not to use them. I know I got a great deal for this... and I think I am more excited just by the history of the tool, although never used....been around a long time, and run smooth as butter. very little rust on the bed, but I will take care of that with some emery paper.

Very nice. Reminds me how I got my 1972 Delta Rockwell 14" bandsaw. I got it at the County Auction here in San Diego. It is both metal and wood cutting. Only had to replace the blade and changed the guides to Carter's for longer life. It ran like a champ when I got it home.

To get rid of the rust, get some steel wool and a can of WD-40. Spray the rusted area with the WD-40 and then scrub it off with the steel wool. I usually use 3 or 4/0 to start so I'm not that aggressive with it.

You can also use a common green kitchen scratch-pad and WD-40. I did that to an old mini-lathe I bought at auction and it cleaned up the lathe ways to a nice shine in about 10 minutes.

SCORE!!!!! Now that you have some old arn, google up old wooding working machines!!!!!!!! There is a yearly gathering of old arn lovers in northern IL every year. And since your in the same state, try and get to the Midwest Penturning Gathering!!!
