I wanted to start casting in polyester or some form of turnable resin. Is there a particular polymer or brand that anyone recommends? A site that might help a newbie? Any specific kits ? Thank you in advance for the help...

Ron does have a nice tutorial with the right stuff to get started! Silmar 41 is the resin I use as well. Do feel free to PM me with any questions you may have, I'm not an expert or anything but I do cast alot of my own blanks. Best of luck and I look forward to seeing some of your work!

There are several articles in the library that will help get you started. Ron just pointed you to one he has just finished. Polyester resin and alumalite are the two most popular. Each one has it pros and cons. Browsing the casting forum will give you lots of information. We(IAP members and library) are an oasis for info and experience on casting pen blanks. Kit specific...not really. Cast blanks and use them as you would any pen blank. Or, take the tubes, stick something on them and clear cast (embedding). Look around, read, ask questions, and report your findings. That is how we have all learned.
Happy casting.'
Do a good turn daily!
