I was wishing for a new lathe and came across this term for a Laguna lathe: Swing Over Banjo: 13-1/2". What does it mean? Familiar with other terms but this is new for me. TIA.
The banjo is the metal cross piece your rest sits on.
Most lathes list the swing over the bed, but that does not take into account the space taken up buy the banjo.
I've only seen that term as a specification indicating the maximum diameter of a workpiece that can be turned without interference from the tool rest support (aka banjo). - Dave
