Just got this Monday. It's a Honda VTX1800 C. I saved for a while so I could buy it cash. I hate payments. It's an '02, 10.5k miles, but ya couldn't tell from looking at it that it didn't just roll out of the factory. The owner cared for it obsessively. He left everything stock, even the factory stickers are on it. I plan to add a few things -- bags, sissybar, chrome, etc. -- so the wifey and I can take roadtrips.

My old ride was a Suzuki Savage 650, single cylinder. Some of you have seen it. So this is a BIG upgrade; twice the weight, triple the power, much better on the freeway, and still handles great in town. Best part is I don't have to worry about random breakdowns and things falling off.

Hope everybody's having a good Thanksgiving!

Cool!!!!
Do you realise that that bike has a bigger motor than the average sized car in the UK:eek: But then you guys don't have to pay an arm and a leg for fuel either:mad:

Enjoy it.

Yeah, it's got a larger engine than lots of cars, including my wifes kia in the background. Gas is really cheap now. I just filled up at 1.89$/gal. It'll go up again probably. This isn't the type of bike you really buy for saving gas, but it's still way better than my truck. Depending on how you ride, and mods, people get from 28 to 50mpg on these.

Great bike. Rode one for a few months a couple years back. The LOML and I are getting ready next spring to upgrade to a 2000 or newer Wing. Presently still have my old stand by, a 1983 Suzuki GS1100L. Even with almost 30k on the clock, it will hold it's own with most of the new stuff, especially an HD!!!! And I get 35-38 mpg if I keep it a calm, 2-up ride!!!

As for gas, I just filled the Santa Fe up at Wal Mart for $1.51 a gallon!!!

$1.51 per US Gallon makes me sick ( and want to pack my bags:biggrin: )

By my sums, that same US Gallon would cost us $5.67!!!!!!!

$1.50 = £1.00 ( approx )
1 US Gallon = 3.785 litres
1 litre = £1.00
£1.00 x 3.785 = £3.78 per US Gallon
£3.78 = $5.67

So, what you guys pay for a Gallon, we pay the same for a Litre !!!!

If I ever hear you guys grumble about the cost of fuel again, I'll personally come over there and kick some butt!!!!! ( Unless you are bigger than me, and most of you buggers are!!! )

Now you know why we have small cars:frown:

Ryan,
That will definitely warrant a road trip. Come spring, head to east Tennessee and take a ride on the Dragons Tail... 113 curves in 9 mile stretch.. Uphill both ways...........LOL

I don't do motorcycles and haven't since 1961, but that is a cool bike. When I did do motorcycles, the biggest thing Honda made was a 250 Dreamcycle.

I love it :) You wouldn't happen to be a Dave Ramsey fan by any chance

Great looking bike, even better because the title is sitting in your desk drawer.

Dam straight! Mr. Ramsey has certainly affected my thinking. I still want to get back on a scoot again (sold mine when I was getting married), but not until I can walk in with a stack of $100 bills and say "I WANT A BARGAIN!".

I know I said I paid $1.51 a gallon earlier but apparently I was mistaken. Seems the Murphy's stations (Wal Mart) was offering an extra .02 off a gallon with a shopping card today and today only. Double checked my receipt and sure enough, I only paid $1.49 a gallon!!!

And even though I know I am bigger than you, you'll never hear me complain about the cost of gas. Complaining can't change it, and I still need it so I pay for it and go on. But I will rejoice when it is as low as it is right now!!! And I realize what people around the world are paying and am glad to only have to pay what we do. :)

AMEN!!! We pay cash for nearly everything we can. We use a credit card only if we cannot send a check or money order. And when we do use the card, we write a check for what we charged and mail it to the cc company so we have no balance at the end of the month. Working on getting the house paid off and when it is, woo hoo!! Debt free baby!!!

Because you're little buggers?

Our prices are falling rapidly, yours must be coming down too?
Five months ago it was $4.19/gal. Today it was $1.88
But it won't last. Most of our gas prices raise and fall on
stock manipulation. Yours might be more stable because
your government is controlling much of the price fluctuation.
It is higher, yes. But probably not nearly as volatile.

We started paying through the nose because of Wall Streeters
gambling habits. Now they're buying oil stocks again, so ...

Hey Skippy;

Just a quick question for you, to see if the answer is as hard to find out over there as it is over here. Of that $5 and change per gallon for gas, how much of it is tax of one sort or another? Is it possible to find out what the WHOLESALE price of gas is in the UK? That information over here is a closely held secret and almost impossible to find out, even here in Houston TX, where half the people make a living off oil and gas in one way or another.

Sorry to hijack the thread, Nice new bike BTW.

I'm sure there must be a similar site to see the tax on US fuel
http://www.petrolprices.com/fuel-tax.html

I knew I shouldn'ta mentioned gas prices... Just like nobody shoulda mentioned Religion at last nights "Late Thanksgiving" party with a room full of highly opinionated, moderatly drunk people of various beleifs. I don't want to hi-jack my own thread though. I just wish we could all shut up and watch some Football like normal people.

Anyways, who's Dave Ramsey? sounds familiar. I've always been very opposed to debt, so I live below my means in a lot of ways and put money in the bank. Working a lot helps too. This bike is probably the biggest luxury I have (other than my wife), and it does save gas (and time) rather than taking my trooper to work.

I also bought used because it's a far better value, even though if I saved for a couple more months I coulda bought a new one cash. I have other things to spend my $ on.

I also looked up some specs, just for fun. It has almost as much HP as my truck, which is a 2.6L V6. 107 to 120. With a few mods I could probably beat it. I've been doing a lot of reading and learned that Honda "de-tunes" the bikes from the factory to make them a little bit more mannered; reduce backfireing, lower emmisions, etc. I'm not so sure that I want to give it more power though. On a ride around town I don't use more than half throttle. On the freeway it cruises at 70 with about 1/8th throttle; It'll put you back in the seat if you hit the gas too.

Fun fun fun. I still can't beleive it's parked out front and all mine.
