Or at least new to me since I haven't seen this before. This was trapped by my spam filter but I thought I would share it. Whoever did it put together a pretty good header to make it look legitimate and I'm sure they'll catch someone.

I love the last line. Does anyone know how serious it is if you're criminally indicated??[:0]

Botched up grammar, requests for personal info are always a big tip-off that it is a scam. Even if I thought it might be genuine, I would ignore just as a matter of caution. If it really were the IRS and you ignored it, a letter would be sure to follow shortly. Any e-mails I have the slightest doubt about get deleted without opening.

For 1, the good tipoff would have been the web address, 2, it would have given you an number to the center that is processing it, 3, the IRS does not need to put "Copyright" or "U.S.A." in the e-mail, 4, the addressee would have an IRS e-mail address and would not be recording your ip address.

I've worked for the IRS for 20 years (no flames, I don't do taxes, just electronic filing) and all correspondence is sent via snail mail. Even those letters have to be pre-approved by Notice Clarity (the lawyers). Right now the only people that would get info via e-mail, would be the CPA's, Attourney's, other government agencies, Mortgage companies, etc. and they have to go into a Secure e-mail box, which we maintain to get taxpayer info.
