Thank you for allowing me to become a member. As of last September I decided to get back into an old passion of mine woodworking. I emptied out the garage and build myself a small wood shop. Earlier and I jumped into the bandwagon of making pens. And I've made about 100 or so since October. As I've gotten a bit more experience I started thinking about what I could do to make my pens more unique… And obviously segmented pens come to mind. But I've also started working on a series of pens where the word tells a story. The picture of the pen shows one that has a wedge of cedar that was mailed in the sierra Nevada mountains of northern California. I acquired this piece of wood almost 40 years ago on the mining site of the Yellow Jacket mine in Gold Hill Nevada, right next to Virginia City. The yellow jacket mine was the site of the worst money disaster in Nevada history. Over 40 men were lost when a fire broke out on the 800 foot level and burned in small dirt for over a year. The idea is that these pens would be numbered and limited to only 50. Just a thought on how to differentiate myself from $20 pens you see on Etsy.
