Hi All,

I am a long time woodworker and new to pen tuning. I'm looking forward to learning new techniques from the experienced members to make good quality pens.

Thanks,
Glenn

Welcome Glenn, You are at the right place to learn more about pen turning. I have been turning less than a year and I'm having a blast. Lot's of great ideas will been found here. Plus you can get most if not all of your supplies and tools from members at a lot better price than most stores. I look forward to seeing your first pen picture.

Welcome Glenn!!

If you ever come up to the Bay Area be sure to look us (the Northern/Central CA chapter) up.

Be sure to check out the library for a fast jump start on almost anything you want to learn about pen making.

Welcome Glenn. Great to have you here!

I am including the link to a PDF file that goes over many aspects of pen turning from finish - to pens - to tools - to methods etc. It is not in detail but a good overview for pen turning.

Also included below is a link to a new post that gives some information that people wished they had known earlier in pen turning. Some good information by those that make pens.

Welcome Glenn!

I'm up yon in Riverside, CA. I used to live in San Diego and know your area well. We do have a So Cal Chapter that meets in Ontario. Maybe we'll meet some time. Lots of great people and info here.

Welcome to the forum from Central Cal. There is a lot of great info available here. Take the time to soak it all in and feel free to ask questions any time.

Glenn, Welcome to the addiction. Woodworking is one thing, but making pens is a whole 'nother story. It can be anywhere from simple and easy all the way up to as complex and difficult as you are willing to handle. Have you ever taken any classes at Palomar College in San Marcos? They have a really excellent woodworking program there and it is a junior college so the tuition is relatively cheap.

There's a lot of advice, instruction, and help available here.
