Hey all, newbie here from St. Louis MO. Took a class at John Campbell on green turning and have evolved into pens. Total so far is 5, but I'm enjoying every second! Made my first CA finish last night, pretty impressive trick...need work but glad I tried it!

StephenM, live in Florissant and work in Overland. Spend a bit of time (and money) at Hargroves fly shop in Brentwood so that's close to you! Are you in the local turners guild?

Thanks for the warm welcome, all. I hope to learn from you all and get to a point where I can contribute as well!

No, with a 12 and 8 year old and being on the Webster Groves Historical Society Board, I hardly have enough time to turn pens.

Which is Hargrove? The one across from Carl's or the one further east towards Maplewood? I used to flyfish quite a bit until I ran a chisel across my thumb and cut the tendon...

Hargroves is across from Carl's...which is yet another glorious place to spend time and money! Totally understand the time aspect, I have twin girls. They recently turned 21 so I may be a smidge ahead of you on that score. Do you know anyone local who mentors or teaches?

Greetings from South County. Don't know about anyone who mentors or teaches but would be willing to get together over a cup and talk about our experiences. Send a PM.

StephenM...dude, seriously nice work. If you rate yourself as non-expert, I'm not sure I ever want to see what an expert can do! Gonna have to take you up on the sawdust! Boz, sounds like a plan as well!
