Hello all,

Took a pen turning class at Woodcraft and got hooked. I hope to be able to start turning next week when my arm comes out of the brace it is currently sitting in. I have been looking around the site and am amazed at the fact that people cast their own blanks. I didn't even know you could do that. Now I am wanting to start casting myself, especially the clear castings with objects suspended in them.

Welcome to the forum! Now that you have caught the bug, this is a great place to absorb a wealth of information. Be sure and ask a lot of questions before shelling out the dough for casting molds and materials. If you are particularly interested in placing things on tubes and pouring clear casts, then you may want to look into the ResinSaver molds. I'm drawing a complete blank right now, but ask and you'll get a quick reply. Look through a bunch of the threads in the casting forum - so much info. I just got into casting and I'm struggling my way through. I started buying stuff before I really had an idea what I was doing and ended spending money on molds that I really don't need. They will always resell on the classifieds here.

Have fun and get a good respirator if your going to be casting.

Welcome from a native Tennessean now living in Georgia. Where abouts in TN are you?

Crossville, TN. I love this area.

Thanks to all the welcome messages, I hope that by practicing I can turn out the quality of items I have seen on the forums.
