Just wanted to say hello. I have been trolling the site and reading and reading. I am amazed at the level of talent here and the willingness to share. Seems like a great place.

I am not sure why these works of art intrigue me some much, but they do. I also don't understand why I would like to give this go. without having any of the tools and I have not been on a lathe since 8th grade wood shop. I have a long way to go.

When I mentioned this to my wife she just rolled her eyes and said 'You want to start another hobby' LOL.

Welcome Brian, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. You mention that you have read some of the site, be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/library/general_reference/Getting_started_in_pen_turning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.
Look up recent post by ed4copies where he goes through the process of making a pen. Very informative.

Welcome Brian from the Mile High City!!! My wife always does the same thing then ask can I make this or that which has to do with the hobby. Most recently a touch pen for her ipad.
