I am an active duty LtCol in the Marine Corps, communications officer...stationed in Quantico VA, living nearby. I am an avid deer and turkey hunter and take my two kids with me on many of my outings. We are from the great state of Florida and die hard Gator Fans.

I just got a lathe this year for Christmas, Black Friday sale at Woodcraft and I scored a Rikon 1216VS. I have a full woodshop - having been one of my many hobbies over the years.

I have been turning turkey pot calls and pens for a few months now, turning to pens now that turkey season is over. (its pre deer really)

I have made a few already, wood, deer antler and acrylic, even did one from a Romanian AK-47 stock for a trade I made for a riveting jig (I gunsmith also) - came out really nice. I can get two out of a stock if I make the cuts right - and I scored some stocks cheap.

I have a Rockler mandrel from their start up kit and its doing fine, have turned a bunch of slim lines and a sierra kit with the humming bird laser kit from Rockler also. I really enjoy turning the pens, have been giving them away to a number of folks as gifts going to turn one for our Cub Scout leader tonight out of a blue/yellow acrylic blank.

Working on a slim line pencil kit right now, have it turned and pressed but I took the doggone lead dispenser part out...and I cannot fathom how it goes back together. Rockler is trying to assist...but if anyone knows how to make the lead holder/extender go together I would really appreciate it!

That's about it.

Welcome Sean from the other side of Florida.
Those pencil mechs. are a pain in the rear. Don't know to what extent you wrecked it but one thing you need to check is inside the point where the lead comes out there is a tiny black rubber grommet. Without that, the lead will just fall out. Don't want to knock anyones junk, but---- Happy turning.

Welcome to our addiction Sean. Thank You for your service to our country, and thank your family for the sacrafices they have made.

I have two brass parts and a spring that came out of the main "body".

One is a tube with a small rim, the other looks like a collet of some sort. The spring was mounted on a white plastic end of the main body.

Its the tube/collet/spring relationship I am struggling with.

I bet - two beers and it will all make sense! Three and I will be making my own?

Welcome to the commonwealth state where you will pay more in taxes than you bring home to live on and everyone else is picking your pockets for the rest of it.

Ha...

I am resident of Florida...so just property taxes on the house here.

Fixed the pencil! That English degree from UF was worth it I guess.

Thanks for all the welcomes!
