Oregon that is.

This is a great looking forum and I find the generous flow of information to be terrific.

I have not even completed my first pen yet although I have all of the supplies. I drilled my first 2 set of blanks but the drill wandered so badly I don't think I will be able to use them. I got a new drill bit today that is much higher quality, so maybe I will finish my first one tonight.

I am hoping to be able to make pens that I can donate to the Freedom Pens program.

I am also looking for info on using pine cones but the only tutorial-like thread I have found does not have the pictures any more. Any suggestions?

Thank you and I hope to be a contributing part of this forum.

Welcome to group. you will have lots of help onece you get started. I can not give you any information regarding pine cones, however there is more information available from others I am sure. Just went through Portland yesterday. I could have stopped but had not had your information. Next time. Frank

Welcome from Texas Pat.

Were you drilling wood? Take you time and don't put too much pressure on the drill. Clear chips often. If the bit gets too hot to touch, take a break and let it cool. Because I am lazy, I am going to quote Andy (PenMan1)...
Brad point bits work well on most woods without twists and knots, but don't do very well on materials other than wood.

I have been very happy with the Colt 5 Star Pen Makers bits and the Colt parabolic bits. In fact, they are the best bits I've ever used. They drill acrylics, metals and other alternative materials better than anything else I've tried.
Regards,
Harry
