I am putting together a very brief, concise help file that I'm going to link from the front page. Below are some topics I want to include. Most of these will be pointers to other information, but I want to give people a good place to start.

What would you add to this list?

  • What is the IAP and who runs the web site?
  • How can I join the site?
  • How can I join a local chapter?
  • How can I learn to use the forum?
  • What are the site rules?
  • How do I submit an article?
  • I lost my password, what do I do?
  • I forgot my username, now what?
  • How do I change my email address?
  • How do I include a photo in a post?
  • How do I use my photo album?
  • Can I use the IAP Logo on my web site or product?
  • How can I make a donation to the site?
  • Where can I buy IAP branded merchandise?

Perhaps you could do like Sawmill Creek and ID the contributors as they do . . . I can say that now since I just made a small contribution to IAP :) . . . I do know Sawmill Creek's method encouraged me to donate . . . Not to mention they are always seeking donations . . I'm not complaining, just stating a fact. I think that for a site to survive there has to be donations . . .

Steve, my 2 cents . . .

Steven, not trying to argue here. But I have personally been put off by Sawmill Creek. I joined that group several years ago and have done nothing there but donate time money etc in the freedom pen project. but to post an add I have to pay for it. It didn't really make me mad but it did make me wonder enough about just what is going on to pretty much stop supporting the group. A little like everything has a dollar sign on it on their part but they exist off the generosity of others themselves. I know that groups cost money. but it starts to get a little overboard even if that line is not always clear.

Steve - Thanks for the suggestion, but that's not something we are planning to do. I understand the theory -- encourage donations, because as you point out, nobody wants to be missing the "contributor" tag next to their name. But is also creates another "division" between members. Could we use more donations? Sure, but I don't believe that identifying contributors is the best way to make that happen.
