Yup I gave up fighting my 8 year old Compaq this week and ordered a new one from Dell.
I have no ideal why I needed a 200G hard drive?????????
All I can say is I hope I can figure out all the new software since I have been useing Windows ME---I also moved up to Adobe 6.0 and Element 4.0.
When get all this working we are going to build a web site---heck maybe I can save on gas.
I am going to keep the old one around until I get the new one going.

Trust me, you'll find a lot of use for that 200GB hard drive.... And as for vista....:( It's not for me, but for an user like yourself (or like you going from ME to Vista). It'll be nice...

I used an e-Machine with ME when I was working... worked great for me.

My personal home computer was a hand me down Sony Viao that I really liked, but only had a 20G hard drive, so I up-graded to a DELL with XP and 80G hard drive... works okay, but I find it to be very very noisy... the fan will kick on and sounds like a small Cessna about to take off. I called Dell and the only advice I got was, "reformat the hard drive and reload the XP" (This was from DELL tech service in INDIA.. where I got hold of "Mike". When I got a Trojan virus, I had to wipe the hard drive clean and reload everthing... I still have a CESSNA. If I could go back and re-purchase, I would opt for the e-Machine again... less cost and just as strong.
200G of hard drive will always be handy.. you'll be surprised at how much use you will find.

I had vista taken off my laptop and Windows XP put on. The technician said it couldn't be done and that there was nothing wrong with Vista. I told him that if he read the industry mags he would see there are lots of problems with it.

Consider doing the same if you don't like it.

I bought XP pro with service pack 2---what ever the heck that is.
Also spent $79.00 extra for 3 years of warranty with tech support here in the USA---I ain't dealing with India.

How did you, get XP pro? I didn't think they were installing it any more but you are much better off with it. Are you going to get fast access or stay with slllloooooowwwww dial-up? :D[}:)]

Heck Tom there is no "fast" down here----we are happy they have phone lines.
I bought my Dell from Dell Business---I have heard a lot of good thing about these folks.

The problem with XP Pro is that the last "service pack" #3 was available for download a couple weeks ago and that's it. No more pathes for XP Pro.

Yes XP Pro is marvelous! I have it running on 2 desk tops and 2 laptops. Yet, I just purchased a laptop for my youngest son as a graduation gift and it is running Windows Vista Premium, or whatever it is called and I really like it. I have heard that you don't want to purchase the version that is an upgrade from XP so when I change all machines I will wipe out the hard drives and reload a stand alone version.

Just my 2 cents.
