A new 8"x12" mini wood lathe is on sale for $99.00, has anyone seen one yet? I'm curious, but have not been to my HF to see it in person - it was in their sale flyer.

My sale flyer came today also. I'm curious to see what the reaction is also. Guess I'll have to go down and see if they have one in stock this weekend and check it out. BTW... ENCO has some arbor presses on sale right now.

I haven't seen it other than on their website where it's listed for $169.99 which is a little much for it. The $99 price sounds good. It looks a lot like the Wilton to me and some of the other similar miniature lathes. Also looks like my Shop Fox mini lathe---but the Shop Fox is finished a little nicer I think.

Here is some extra info from the HF website, the variable speed is a nice + :

* 750-3200 RPM variable speed for precise control
* 1/3 HP motor
* Comes with #1 Morse taper head and tail stock; 2" and 6" face plates, 4" and 7" tool rests
* CSA, UL listed

110V, 60 Hz, 250 watts; 3/4" drive spindle, 16RH thread; Weight: 44 lbs.

ITEM 95607

It's the same as the Wilton 99177. I have 2. I ordered one through Amazon when they were on sale 2 yrs back. It was delivered with a dead live center, which is a cheap enough aftermarket part. I called Jet/Wilton (WMH Tool Group) to ask about just that part, and it was not a stock replacement. 3 days later a whole new lathe showed up. I called them back and asked about a call tag to return the 1st one and they said Merry Christmas(actually they implied the relative worth of shipping it back was too expensive). Somehow one of the spindle lock bolt on the 2nd lathe was bent during shipping, and the bearings in the head sound like marbles rolling around. So 2 lathes combining the parts made one good lathe.

Now that Harbor Freight is carrying their label of the mini lathe maybe they will stock the MT1 Mini Lathe chuck, and a MT1 Drill chuck.

That said so far I like the lathe. Got a teal corncob turned down on it presently, I need to take off and VacStab with A-Plex.

I used a Wilton lathe for a few months, and for $100, it just can't be beat. PSI has a micro-chuck which is available for the 3/4-16" spindle, and also LMS has a 1MT drill chuck, if I'm not mistaken. I never had a complaint at all with the lathe, just upgraded cause I had some money burning a hole in my pocket. BTW, this is no doubt the same lathe as the new HF, as well as the PSI TCL Plus.
