I need a single 7/8" square x 5" long mold for pen making. Anyone know where I can find one of these? Or tell me where to get the supplies and how they are made and I will try to make one myself.
Thanks, Toyotaman

does it have to be square? You could use one of several mold making tutorials found in the Library here at IAP. I wrote one on a horizontal round mold. Click on the "Library" link at the top of the page, then 2010.

Donny,

All you need is a 7/8" x 5" piece of lumber and then follow this tutorial and it should work just fine. http://content.penturners.org/articles/2009/Making_a_Silicone_Mold.pdf

If you find yourself in need and can't figure it out, PM me. I can make you one or talk you through the process. It is not difficult!!

You know it's real simple to make your own square mold. This is what I use I will post a few pictures if you like latter let me know PM. Take one of your wifes old plastic (Delrin) cutting boards cut it up to form a box the size you want. Now some tutorials tell you to screw it together nit necessary. Tape it together I use duct tape and even leave the duct tape on and reuse it over and over again I just cut the corners to open it up leave the tape on and it stays together like a hinge. The just tape the corners back up. But heres the kicker your going to say it's going to leak. Go get some "Goop" it's a silicone based glue. Run a small bead along the seams inside your mold spread and push it in with your finger like caulking you bathtub. Don't worry about your finger it rubs off like a bugger or you could always wear gloves. It dries fast I would give it an hour. Then when finish it just wipes rite off. I take some tape and it just tack it off with the sticky of the tape. Lacquer thiner and acetone will clean it also.

You can do that for less than $5.00 and it will last. Well I had my molds for about 2 years now same method all I used is duct tape & Goop.

If you have any questions or would like a picture I know a picture is worth a thousand words let me know. I just don't have time rite now.

This is my foolproof guide. If I were doing it again, I'd use Lego. If it doesn't look fun, PM me and 'll make you one. Postage from the UK to the US is a ball-ache, though.

There is a complete tutorial and cut list for molds made from white plastic cutting boards available on my website under the penturning resources page. you can find it HERE.

Thanks to all of you for the help. After looking at the tutorial it will be easy to make. I will make a trip to Lowes tomorrow for the silicone.I have the rest of the supplies.
