I sold a Lotus pen to my best customer with a custom ground calligraphy nib. But it seems I misunderstood my customer. She needs a regular calligraphy nib and not an italic calligraphy nib. Please tell me this exists. She says it should have a flat, squarish tip and not rounded over at all. Does anyone know where to find a regular calligraphy nib so I don't have to refund all this money and lose my best customer?:confused::confused:

Will those fit in a Lotus pen? I don't mind paying big bucks as long as I know it will work. What manufacturers of nibs fit in the big fountain pens from CSUSA?

If it is custom ground, send it back to the person that did the grinding to have it reground. However, he did grind it according to your (or your customer's) instructions. An italic nib has a square tip with very sharp corners which will produce a dramatic line width variation between down strokes and cross strokes. A cursive italic nib has slightly rounded corners so the corners do not dig into the paper, but this sacrifices a little line width variation. A stub (or stub italic) nib has a slightly rounded foot and the corners are more round than the cursive italic nib. This will allow the pen to write almost as smooth as a round nib, but at a cost of much less line width variation when compared to an italic nib.

Stan,
I must first admit that I know nothing about calligraphy and therefore depend on others for their knowledge. To my untrained eye and according to the customer, the nib was as round as a regular fountain pen nib. (She all ready owns 3 or 4 regular fountain pens from me.) Your first description sounds like what the customer wanted but she says that is writes just like a fountain pen. I did not take a picture of the nib so I have to take her word for it. She did send me picture of the type of nib she is looking for and I will include it here. Thanks for helping me.

Anthony (Penworks) sells, or used to sell the Lamy Safari with the 1.5 nib, which is the pen in the photo. I would contact him to see if he carries a nib that will fit the large feed used by Craft Supply or if he would grind one for you.

In case you are curious, the nib in the Safari will not fit any of the kit feeds without some serious modifications.

Thanks George, I sent him an email through his website and will see what he says. I guess the larger pens from CSUSA are difficult to find nibs for but my customer does not like using the smaller pens.

Thanks guys for the help. I believe everything will work out.
Rob, If you found a solution would you mind sharing it with the group so others in similar situations would benefit?

Finding nibs to fit the kit pens we make is a challenge we all face if we encounter customers who want special writing features.

George,
I have to hear from my customer first but it will involve regrinding the existing nib. I will however keep researching this in an effort to find the best solution for the future.
