Hi all,

I have an order for a set (fountain, rollerball & pencil) plus I'm adding a letter opener as a thank you & my mom is adding a magnifying glass/paper weight (it's for her minister) and he wants Cocobolo.

He saw a pen I made out of a gorgeous piece of what I think was Mexican Cocobolo that had a big contrast between the orange and the black and some really great figure to it.

Anyone know where I can get a piece that's at least 2x6x6 like that. I thought using one piece and cutting it to the sized I need would keep everything similar since it's a set.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Try these people in Scottsboro, Alabama. http://www.hardwoodcenter.com They are great people to work with.

or...

I have 10-12 blanks I cut from the same 4/4 stock. If those would help you, I would be glade to ship them to you.

Send me a PM if interested in what I have.

Nancy, let me check and see if I have some.

Just checked and I'm sorry, I don't feel that I have any pieces that would make a matching sets. Good Luck!

I got some very nice Cocobolo from Woodcraft. It was 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 18 and the cost was reasonable and the grain would all match lengthwise. Rockler also sells it. I think that Woodturningz also has some on their two week special.

I just saw a couple of great looking boards at the Woodcraft near my home, today! I think it is just what you need, only it is 1.25" thick X 6" X about 3 feet long, which I think is good for what you described. If you need it, let me know, I can get it for you.

West Penn Hardwood sold Bree some nice stuff -- see her post for pictures

http://www.anexotichardwood.com/cocobolo.html Mitch has good cocobolo and will sell a little or a lot.

gilmer woods in Portland Or -- but they have a $100 minimum (that is easy to reach)

West Penn definitely has what you are looking for. The trick is for you to get over there and pick out your dream board. You could call them. Give them precise instructions for what you want and I'm sure the guys will select a nice board for you. If you want wild figure and the high contrast orange and black you might have to to tap their highly figured section which has a higher price. Though I saw a lot of very, very nice boards in the regular section. I think you would do fine there.

Their normal stock runs $18-20 BF while the highly figured is $35 BF. The highly figured is their creme de la creme. Well actually they also have their Unique boards section where the prices are off the scale for one of a kind boards. Usually luthiers are the folks tapping this section.

They are very nice people and they have a huge stock of wood.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I have someone checking what he has or I can take a run to Woodcraft tomorrow.

Glenn - If I can't find/get what I'm looking for I'll pop you a PM. Thanx.

Wow! I scored big!!!

I found a place online that is actually located here in Central Florida. I went down there today and, after being in there for about 5 minutes, have decided this place will be my new local blank supplier.

I got myself an absolutely gorgeous piece of Mexican Cocobolo that has some great figure & ranges from yellow/orange to black. It's majorly sweet and I'll have enough for more than just the set I'm making. The board is 1x3x36.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and offers. I really appreciate everyones williness to help and make suggestions on this site. You guys/gals rock:bananen_smilies039:
