I just started turning pens in December, close to 300 pens now and thousands on tools and pen parts. I really got into it. My oldest son is graduating college May 17th and I would like to make an awesome pen, pencil, letter opener, and/or magnifying glass, in a case. With everything engraved. Any suggestions what I should engrave on the box (name, saying, picture)? I want something that will last many years. what kind of pen kit & wood etc?

Rick, Its hard to give you advice on such a thing. I would have to say, the engraved things that I have received in the past that mean the most to me are always quotes or memories that are special between myself and the person giving me the present. It doesn't have to mean anything to anyone else besides you and your son.

For what its worth..

I just finished a project for a customer. His wife is graduating from Penn Law School.
I had ken engrave the Penn logo and Her name on the box. She loves unicorns. So the cap of the pen was engraved with a unicorn. Barrel was engraved with her name Unv Penn and the year she graduated.
Best suggestion is to use your imagination.
