I recently scored enough free 8/4 maple:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin: to build myself a small butcher-block coffee table.
I biscuit/glued it together today, planed it flat and routed a nice 1/8" radius around all the edges. It's ready for a base. The top is 1 5/8" thick, 12" wide and 48" long---- perfect for our small apartment.
The base will be out of solid hickory (heartwood, ie, dark for a unique contrast) because the hickory is free:biggrin::biggrin: too (not enough maple to use). I want the base to be more of a modern-look than the traditional four-legged, skirted style. I am considering gluing the hickory up into 14" wide boards and cutting snow-sled type legs, which would make this table look just like a huge snow sled.
OR I am willing to see your pics of something similar! Please feel free to post pics, share ideas, etc....
