Keith,
I am sorry to here about your injuries. If you have some friends around you might possible be able to have some sort of bench made in front of your lathe for while you recover. That is as long as you are able to make it out to your shop. Regardless, adding you to my prayer list.
God Bless,
Eric

God, hear my prayer,
And let my cry come to You.
Do not hide from me in the day of my distress
Turn to me and speedily answer my prayer.
Eternal God, Source of healing,
Out of my distress I call upon You.
Help me sense Your presence
At this difficult time.
Grant me patience when the hours are heavy;
In hurt or disappointment give me courage.
Keep me trustful in Your love.
Give me strength for today, and hope for tomorrow.
To your loving hands I commit my spirit
When asleep and when awake. You are with me; I shall not fear.

Praying for your speedy recovery.

Every injury is different, but I underwent arthroscopic surgery for torn knee cartilage many years ago and wasn't down for as long as I thought I would be. I hope you are as lucky.

Prayers on your way, Keith.

btw I've always turned on the lathe sitting down. But I have a Jet mini I set on a cut down table.

And prayers for you too, Grant. Hope you both heal quickly and well.

Keith and Grant, you are both in my prayers. May you have a speedy recovery.

Prayers are on their way. The guys took the words right out of my mouth... sit down bench in front of the lathe. Never give up turning!!
:wink::wink::wink:

Been there, done that. Time is the great healer so hang in there.

Prayers for both healing and sanity. By the way I use a stool to set on for part of my turning anyway. I like to do the rough work while standing but then set down for the final cuts and all the sanding polishing etc. I have at times set in the stool for the whole thing if my back is hurting or something. I do know you can do it. Just hoping for ya.

keeping you in my prayers. Hopefully they can do orthoscopic surgery, and you will be on the road to recovery. Just follow the physical therapy exactly.
I have survived 5 knee surgeries..

Keith - I have bad joints and do a lot of turning sitting on a stool with the painfull one extended straight -- Not good for long long turning sessions, but works. The biggest change is that most turning is taught for those with two good legs and using the body twisting motions -- that does not work for cripples like me. I have arms, shoulders, and a great deal of care. Invest in some good lights, keep the tooling ultra sharp, and really practice light cuts because you will not be able to contol hoggin cuts. Shorter handles may be needed, but cutting off handles is pretty easy.

Turning between centers makes it easier because you are doing only one section at a time. You do not need to move the stool, and after doing it, I suspect you will stay with the technique after the knee heals.

If you can sit a stool comfortably, you CAN turn.

I also moved my lathe down to a lower table and sit in a fairly comfortable office chair, maybe you could the same before your surgery. I am having my left shoulder replaced on March 8th and am hoping to be able to turn after a week or two. You are on my prayer list also.
