Well, after months of research I finally attempted casting. I lerned that recycle code 2 cups can hold PR resin...until you add a little heat. Ahh, but since I read the posts of what could go wrong I was watching for this possible failure and avoided a mess in the ultrasonic sink. I ended up using old prescription bottles to mix my resin in but need to go find the right type of cups for future casts.

I mixed some dye from US Composites with the Silmar 41 and some powders from Coastal Scents. My first cast is slowly hardening, it was 2 ounces and I added 10 drops of MEKP. I used less dye in the second cast and less powder and the blank setup in about an hour with 12 drops of MEKP.

Next I added the Navy Pilots Wings and poured clear Silmar 41 on top of it. I will wait 24 hours before attempting to remove from the prescription bottle I'm using as a mold. Then I am hopeful I'll be able to drill a hole directly in the center of the blank so the wings will be centered when I turn the bottle stopper.

I'll add pics of the blank when it comes out of the mold.

I couldn't wait...

Here is the finished product, I know the pictures are terrible, I need to get a decent quality camera.

You paid attention! Very nicely done!

FYI: recycle code 5 cups 64. 9 oz cups $2, Family Dollar Store.

Now I'm confused, thought it was recycle code #1?

The bottlestopper is first class....you live near a Naval Air Station?

Scott (I'm always confused) B

Scott, I don't really live near a NAS, I work out of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard where they repair Aircraft Carriers, so I run into a fair share of Navy Pilots who are in the "penalty box" serving shipboard tours.
