I am though I don't follow it as much as I used to . I'm a Harvick fan . As to Why they are professionals .... Anyone who can sit in a 125 degree car doing 160 to 180 mph in a pile of traffic for 4 to 5 hours , I would call a Professional ! and if you think it's easy , try it sometime .

He__ yeah. Mark Martin fan. 20 years Daytona 500. I got my tickets to Richmond. Short Tracking at it's finest.

Did my time as an OTR driver for 10 years. No accidents, tickets, but a lot of traffic....I wasn't considered a professional.

Anyone here a fan? Who's your favorite driver?

Any of them that turn right on the circle track!

You mean the ones who go off the track? (They drive counter-clockwise around the track, constant left turns. Going right would take them off the track.)

Off track would be awesome!!!

Now with a few rule changes, I'd be an instant fan of the game-thing(it's not a sport...they use machines to do the work).

Rule change number 1: If the car they are driving is a Monte Carlo, then they actually have to drive one off the showroom(AC and all), put a rollcage in it and race it...no other mods can be done.

Rule change number 2: If any contact is made with anything during the race, they are disqualified from competition for three years.

Rule change number 3: During a pit stop, the driver must get out and pump his/her own gas....from a regular gas pump!

There's a big difference between doing 55 even in a semi and highway traffic and doing 180 with a bunch of other guys all trying to pass you at the drop of a hat . I drove in NYC traffic for several years for my job , if you want to get a feeling what it's like to be a pro just try to get past a cab on his way to 47st in a rush . My hat is off to the NASCAR drivers .

I'm not a NASCAR follower by any means.

My question to you is if you were OTR for 10 years, why don't you consider yourself a professional?

I am,although I don't have the time to watch an entire race in one sitting.( I'd rather be turning a pen!) I still check out the highlights on NASCAR.com,and on the Speed channel I like watching the "Race in 60",where it's condensed down to only 1 hour.

I too am a Mark Martin fan,and hate it when Kyle Busch wins ever since he totally destroyed on stage the beautiful guitar that was awarded to him.I think of all the work that went into crafting that thing, only to have someone smash into bits as a stunt.

I also like the #48,since He is the local hero here, and he is such a good guy.

I wish for JR that he win a race to get the monkey off his back.

Daytona is my favorite race to watch.

Used to be a big fan as we owned the largest Nascar collectible store in this part of the country. But in the last few years nascar has gotten boring and I fully understand that with the money the corporate sponsors have invested in a car they all have to play nice. I still will watch a race and usually fall asleep, if it doesn't interfere with pen making, shows, and football. Was a big Bobby Labonte fan, still think he never should have left Joe Gibbs racing...

A BIG Jeff Gordon #24 Fan here :) ... we go to the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte every other year and love it !!!!!!!! .... use to race Amateur Class in my younger days ... so I have somewhat an idea what they go trough every weekend !

Cheers

Brian

I am not a fan. I can't understand why a group of professional drivers won't race in the rain. I drive to work everyday raining or not, I see a lot of little old ladies driving in the rain. These professional guys won't do it. If they have to slow down due to the rain, they would all have to slow down. Nobody would have an unfair advantage. Heck, they could put mud and snow tires on the cars for all I care, but get out there and do your job.:eek::eek:

Today......my favorite driver is ANYBODY BUT Kyle Busch  Really my driver of all time is in my avatar. His son is next. From there I like all the drivers who make up the field that puts on a show every week for me to enjoy and, they love doing it. I have suffered from food poisoning before and thought I was near death.:frown: I think it was David Ruetiman that was suffering with it last night and,ran the whole race AT BRISTOL:eek: I think THAT in itself would make HIM a pro. IMHO

Ricky Bobby RULES!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, I'm a big Robbie Gordon fan. This guy drives off-road trucks, indy cars, and nascar. Also Juan Pablo Montoya, as he can drive anything with wheels. Open Wheels Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ernie! Is there something in that water down there?

I cheer for Danika!!!!!!!!!!!! who cares about all them other ones. In all seriousness I cheer for anybody who beats the Busch brothers.

Ryan Newman and Kyle Busch. That being said, it is clear that a lot of people love to hate Kyle Busch, but the arrogant SOB can drive...............

Kinda a nascar family :p I like Montoya mostly cause his number :D (42)

My brother likes logano
My dad like Ketheslowski <- fail spelling
My mom likes martin

Yup....

Marshal Teague and his Fabulous Hudson Hornet.

Hey Smitty,

Does that bring back childhood memories. Grew up on the dirt tracks in Pa(1950's-60's). That Hudson flathead six ruled the track!

Carl
Straight line 6 with three duces...Olds 88s and Chrysler 300s were about the only ones that could keep up with them.

We used to go to the races in Pittston or West Pittston when I was in elementary school.

I could have said Geoff Bodine...I lived about 8 - 9 miles from the Chemung Speedway in NY state where he and Brett both cut their teeth. Their family (I think their dad) owned the speedway which started life as a dirt half mile track. I met both Geoff and Brett but can't say that I knew them, just a hello and handshake after the races one night.

But the 50's....Dirt tracks all over the place in those days...guys would tow their car to the track, fold the towbar up for the race, use masking tape over the headlights to keep them from getting broken by flying pebbles..... and races for convertibles....

LOVE nascar and a Stewart fan. Actually I like all of them. It's kinda like a soap opera where you hate this character and love that character, but if any of them were gone, it just wouldnt be the same.

Not a fan... I think watching a bunch of guys going round and round and round and round and round .... probably get dizzy and bored pretty quick.

True Nascar fans drink beer, smoke cigars and listen to the roar of the engines.....

Not a big beer drinker... I like a good Mexican or Nicaraguan or maybe a good German now and then(haven't found any American beer I like), can't stand cigars and hate anything that makes a lot of noise... (after 11 years walking the fuselage of commercial aircrafts with the #3 engine running(even with earmuffs and plugs, it very very loud), I have my own personal noise.... a high pitched scream in my ears that I've had for the last 30 years.
