It's flat all the way down the length of it.
It's got a small stainless barrel at the end, but it's not threaded and doesn't spin.
Ideas?

It's actually an 18th Century tool used by Dentists. They would place the round thing against a tooth slated for removal, and hit it with a 2 lb. mallet. Out comes the tooth!

Or it's a tie rod end from a '57 Chevy, I'm not positive which.

Ah, I got this from Dale Johnson who also gave me an old 4 jaw chuck. I wonder if that don't fit one of the key holes and a wrench is just what it is?

Nope, couldn't be. You see, "That would me (sic) [a] wild and mostly uninformed guess", remember? (ahem)

I love it when people shoot from the lip :D

Cheers!

George sounds a lot better than 'Dale's Tool'.

I'll agree, I think rb765 may have won this thread. No idea till I can get home and give it a try.

That would me wild and mostly uninformed guess.

I don't think it's so wild or uninformed... my first impression was that it looks almost identical to the spanner that came with my Nova chuck. To further the idea, the wear pattern on the body of the tool seems consistent with having been used as such. I'm guessing that it's a spanner for a chuck, as well.

Thanks for that vote of confidence. I may not have been turning long, but worked with a wrench once or twice :) As for being "Wild and uninformed", been that too...

"George"............that's what I'd name it.

"George" was my first guess.

"Spanner for a Nova Chuck" was my second.

Being an unconventional sort of dude, though, I jotted down my third choice, which was "some kind of weird, and broken, hollowing tool" ;)

At least I wasn't wild and uninformed :D

Cheers!

Settle down, both of you. You are both misinterpreting my typo.

I meant to post
That would be my wild and mostly uninformed guess.
I was agreeing with RB765, not insulting him.

Hey, I think it's a damned smart name for a fine tool!

Depending on the length of the entire thing, it looks like a tool we used when stretching the "bead" of a tire as it was being seated on the rim. If this what it is it would need to be long and heavy indeed.

Is that one of those .. whatchamacallits? Freudian slips?

Freudian Slip: When you say one thing but you really mean your mother..

YOU TALKIN' 'BOUT MY MAMA!!!! YOU BEST NOT BE TALKIN' 'BOUT MY MAMA....I don't mind being called wild and all, but you leave my Mama out of this...Kidding :)
